Anthony Borgese, who is known for his roles in “The Sopranos” and “Goodfellas,” isn’t just a mobster on screen.

The 72 year-old plead guilty today to extorting a debtor who was beaten, not by Anthony Borgese, but by mob goons. Sounds like something right out of “The Sopranos” or “Goodfellas.”

But, this is real life and Anthony Borgese, aka Tony Darrow, now faces real life consequences.

His sentencing date will be sometime this summer, after the charity golf tournament that he hosts to raise money for United Cerebral Palsy. For some reason, that just strikes me as ironic.

Anthony Borgese could face up to 41 months in prison. He’s concerned for his family’s privacy and feels embarrassed. But, it seems a little late for that.

American Idol Hopeful James Durbin Has Turrets Syndrome (VIDEO)

It’s no surprise to any American Idol fan that James Durbin is the new American Idol frontrunner this season after his incredible San Francisco audition that wowed the judges and millions (and millions!) of viewers.

His story is hearbreaking – after he lost his father to a drug overdose at age 9, he was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome and Aspergers Syndrome.

James intrigued the judges with his soulful voice, and that alone might have made him one of the most memorable contestants of any season. All of the judges gave James his ticket to Hollywood.

“You sing from where you need to sing from,” Jennifer Lopez told James at the end of his audition.

The TouchPad specs include: webOS 3.0, a 9.7-inch display, a 1.2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-CPU APQ8060 processor, 1024x768 resolution, 1GB RAM, 16/32GB storage, 1.3 MP front camera, 3G and 4G variants, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, gyroscope, accelerometer, and a weight of 740 grams. Also, HP's TouchPad comes equipped with Flash capabilities and Beats audio. The TouchPad appeals to professionals with an on-screen QWERTY keyboard for on-the-go editing of Word and Excel files, as well as Powerpoint and PDF functionality.

Of course, the TouchPad will launch with a load of accessories, such as a lightweight carrying case, wireless keyboard and the Touchstone charging dock. The most impressive feature of the TouchPad (and the other new webOS devices for that matter) is the synergy between the different platforms. For example, Touch-to-Share seamlessly transitions information from one device to another. Simply touch one of the new HP devices (Pre 3, Veer, and TouchPad) together and watch as one device effortlessly transfers the URL of a webpage to the other device. Indiana Will Not Respect Harry Baals

A former Indiana mayor who won four terms in the 1930s and 1950s is proving less popular with modern-day city leaders, who say they probably won't name a new government center for him because of the jokes his moniker could inspire.

Harry Baals is the runaway favorite in online voting to name the new building in Fort Wayne, about 120 miles northeast of Indianapolis. But Deputy Mayor Beth Malloy said that probably won't be enough to put the name of the city's longest-tenured mayor on the center…

"We realize that while Harry Baals was a respected mayor, not everyone outside of Fort Wayne will know that," Malloy said Tuesday in a statement to The Associated Press. "We wanted to pick something that would reflect our pride in our community beyond the boundaries of Fort Wayne."

It's true, not everybody is going to fully appreciate Harry Baals and what Harry Baals was capable of. Not just as a politician — who would not back down even when squeezed hard by opposition — but also as a family man — who enjoyed a pleasant nuzzling. In some ways, you could say that there were two Harry Baals. Obviously, the people Fort Wayne love both of their beloved Harry Baals. The name is ubiquitous there, where cries of "Harry Baals" are constantly rolling off people's tongues and slipping into people's ears. But you can't expect everybody to feel that way. The Harry Baals are an acquired taste.

So, I guess they'll have to go with the second place option: Gangrenous Anal Pustule, Jr. Government Center.

Domonique Ramirez was stripped of her Miss San Antonio title because she was too fat? According to Ramirez, her crown of Miss San Antonio was taken away from her because of her weight!

The 17-year-old beauty queen was told to ‘get off the tacos’ by pageant officials—and she’s 5ft8in and weighs 129lbs! If Domonique Ramirez at a size 2, is too fat, what about the rest of us? Using the standards of the Miss San Antonio pageant, I should be in a circus!

Domonique Ramirez won the Miss San Antonio competition in April last year but she was stripped of her title and now she’s suing the pageant. The former queen has filed a temporary restraining order to stop pageant organizers from promoting runner-up Ashley Dixon to the crown.

Naturally the pageant has a different story than Domonique. Linda Woods, the pageant board’s spokeswoman, says Ramirez didn’t follow the rules. Woods said, “As a Miss San Antonio reigning queen, [Ramirez] has to live up to our rules and regulations and the standards of our contract.”

Woods told a local news station that Ramirez skipped events or showed up with her boyfriend, and was unreliable. Ramirez told a San Antonio TV station, “I shouldn’t have to be slandered like this and my future shouldn’t have to be ruined over this.”

Before we begin, I just want to take a moment to recognize the transcendent awesomeness of Kyrie Irving. Dan Wiederer, who wrote the great 3-part article on Coach K for the Fayetteville Observer, is back with an update on Irving after the cast came off. There's nothing new medically, but he recaps Kyrie's role on the team post-injury.

If you haven't noticed the bond between Irving and senior guard Nolan Smith, you haven't been paying attention.

During games, it's not uncommon for Smith to look over to Irving almost as often as he looks toward Coach K. It's a situation as peculiar as any in college basketball, a senior All-American with 128 games of experience under his belt looking to the bench for advice and encouragement from an injured freshman who has logged all of 231 minutes in his college career.


There's a lot of great stuff like that. Mike Patrick and Len Elmore touched on his passion during the State game, and I completely agreed; he's an awesome teammate. How many mega-stars like Kyrie would do all their sulking in private and put on a supportive show for teammates from day one, knowing full well their season might be finished? He never missed a beat on the bench, and you never got the sense he was anything but a really valuable member of the team, even in street clothes. And it can't be an act; he goes nuts whenever someone makes a great play, especially if it's Nolan.

If he doesn't play another game this year, and gets drafted this summer, I'll still consider his Duke career worthwhile. He's just a good dude, and a big recruiting coup for the school. Coach K wouldn't know a good big man if he fell face first into Wilt Chamberlain's crotch, but the man can find guards.

Okay. Let's take a look at the positional match-ups between Duke and UNC. Please keep in mind that:

-Since its inception, the sport of basketball is played 5 on 5, not in a weird series of 1 on 1 games.
-Therefore, this kind of analysis is slightly useless.
-But it's still guaranteed to pick a winner.

nternet, meet Johnny McEntee, a sophomore quarterback for the UConn Huskies who, as far as we can tell, has yet to attempt a pass in a Division I football game. Here is a video summation of what he can do:

It is impossible not to find something to love about this video. McEntee's obvious self-satisfaction is completely charming, and the elaborate casualness with which his teammates make cameos is a total hoot. For our money, the best shots are the William Tell (the kid he's throwing at doesn't even flinch, which tells you a lot about how often he misses), the aerial attack on the Domino's delivery guy, the ball-out-the-air field goal, and the seated basketball shots. Oh, and McEntee's victory dance. Don't miss that.

But if the Texan does get down on one knee and propose to Chantal O'Brien, Emily Maynard, Ashley Hebert or Michelle Money, it won't be the first time.

At least according to Laurel Kagay, his on-off girlfriend of eight years. She tells Us that Brad asked to marry her several times - including last summer!


DOUBLE LIFE: Laurel raises some pretty serious questions if what she says about Brad is true. But was there even any deception involved on his part?

"Even when we weren't together, he'd say how much he loved me and was going to marry me," says Laurel, noting that Brad proposed right before The Bachelor.

After spending the summer trying to woo her back, making comments to the effect of "I will marry you right now," he left to star on the ABC show a second time.

THG NOTE: If Laurel Kagay looks familiar, it's because she also dated Wes Hayden, and was his rumored "girl back home" while he was on The Bachelorette.

Wes denied he and Laurel were an item at the time of the show, despite a major hatchet job by the producers (and Jake Pavelka) to convince us otherwise.

Regardless of what happened there, she and Brad were serious. Even after he left to film the show last fall, Brad Womack continued to send Kagay emails.

Now that Womack is telling the world he's found love this time around (The Bachelor spoilers here offer a good guess at who), Kagay wants to warn her.

News: Leon Russell to perform one NZ show

Perhaps not a household name – and arguably, that fact is bordering on criminal – Leon Russell started playing clubs in Tulsa while still in his mid-teens, as rock ‘n’ roll itself was being born. By his early 20s, he was a member of the hallowed LA studio band the Wrecking Crew, both with and without Phil Spector. Leon played with the Byrds, Mamas and Papas, Beach Boys, Sonny and Cher and many others. As an arranger, he shaped the sound of such timeless singles as Ike and Tina Turner’s River Deep, Mountain High, Herb Alpert’s A Taste of Honey and the Byrds’ Mr Tambourine Man.

By the late 60s, Russell was coming into his own both as a recording artist (recording with Texas musician Marc Benno under the name the Asylum Choir) and as a writer. Joe Cocker’s recording of his sassy Delta Lady (written about Leon’s girlfriend of the time, Rita Coolidge) became a UK top ten hit. Russell subsequently lead the band on Cocker’s Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour and appeared in the movie of the same name.

Leon’s 1970 solo debut album featured a cast of admiring stars including Cocker, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, three Stones (Messrs Jagger, Wyman and Watts) and two Beatles (George and Ringo). Russell also appeared at George Harrison’s Concert for Bangladesh, before reaching his own commercial peak in 1972, when the Carney album spent a month at number two in the Billboard chart.

Apparently, “when he trolls Craigslist’s ‘Women Seeking Men’ forum, he’s Christopher Lee, ‘divorced’ ‘lobbyist’ and ‘fit fun classy guy’ — the sort of guy who’ll even email a shirtless photo to show just how ‘fit’ he is.

Congressman Lee is claiming to be innocent, blaming everything on his being hacked. Unfortunately, the hack post-dates the Craigslist missives. And that brings me to my latest limerick:

BREAKING: N.Y. Rep. Chris Lee resigns after Craigslist personals scandal

Washington (CNN) - Republican Rep. Christopher Lee of New York resigned his House seat Wednesday following a report that the married congressman had tried to meet a woman on Craigslist.

"It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Western New York," said a statement by Lee posted on his website. "I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents. I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness."

The statement said that "the challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately."

Just before 6 p.m., an announcement read on the House floor said Lee had resigned as of 5 p.m. Wednesday and the number of the House members decreased by one from 435 to 434.

Lee, who is married and has a son, resigned after the website Gawker published an item reporting he corresponded with a woman who posted a Craigslist ad and allegedly sent her a bare-chested photo of himself.

The speed of Lee's resignation indicated a culture of zero tolerance by House Republicans for potentially controversial behavior so soon after winning control of the chamber for the first time since 2007.

Lee was first elected to Congress in 2008 from New York's 26th district in the western part of the state, which includes suburbs of both Buffalo and Rochester. He won re-election last November.

Latest classic brings out the best in both UNC, Duke

DURHAM – North Carolina’s improving young basketball team showed the rest of the ACC and the nation just how far it has come Wednesday. Duke, however, showed the Tar Heels how far they still have left to go to eclipse the defending national champions as the league’s top team.

In the process, the Blue Devils learned a little something about themselves, too, by rallying from a 14-point halftime deficit for an inspired 79-73 victory against their hated arch-rival at a steamy Cameron Indoor Stadium

It was a classic Duke-UNC confrontation in every sense of the word, as Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski proclaimed afterward.

And yet, as many rash generalizations and blanket statements that are likely to be made about the outcome – and the way it came about – the high-energy shootout was nothing more than an entertaining prelude for what may still lie ahead.

Both teams took major steps forward in their development as they make the turn into the second half of the ACC season.

Latest classic brings out the best in both UNC, Duke

According to a recent report in the Columbus Dispatch, Schlichter is being investigated in a million-dollar scam sports tickets. Sources told the newspaper Schlichter started soliciting people for money as part of “investment opportunities” with the brokerage and sale of tickets for Ohio State football games and other popular sporting events for about two years ago. Schlichter then used the money collected to make large bets that two sources close to the investigation say exceeded six figures.

Schlichter, 50, was All-American for the Buckeyes and the fourth pick in 1982 NFL draft. He was suspended by the NFL in 1983 due to gambling and was one of the league two years later.

Schlichter also spent more than 10 years of prison in 44 prisons and jails on charges of fraud and forgery for having deceived the people, money to feed his addiction to gambling, according to the Dispatch.

The annual award shows have begun and this week, the People’s Choice Awards celebrated its 35th anniversarywith a strong representation from reality TV. Not only were American Idol alumi chosen by the public, but Dancing with the Stars and Deal or No Deal also took home awards this year.

American Idol’s Carrie Underwood took home three awards for favorite female singer, favorite country song Last name and favorite star under 35.

“God has blessed me with a wonderful life and a wonderful career and the most amazing fans I could ever dream for,” Carrie Underwood said from the podium. “People being fans and people voting for me are what gave me a career in the first place, and its so amazing that they continue to support [me].”

American Idol season six winner, Jordin Sparks’ collaboration with Chris Brown No Air, won in the favorite combined forces category.

“I actually think this is the first award show I’ve been at where they’ve actually aired my award, so I’m very excited about that,” Jordin Sparks said excitedly during her acceptance speech before thanking the fans for their support. “I feel like I’m on Idol again, so thank you.”

And last but not least of the American Idol winners, Secret Life of Bees, which featured Jennifer Hudson in a supporting role, won favorite independent movie.

ABC’s Dancing with the Stars took home the award for favorite competition/reality show for the second year in a row and Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron, co-host Samantha Harris, judge Carrie Ann Inaba and this season’s winner Brooke Booke, took the stage to accept the award.

“On behalf of everybody connected with Dancing with the Stars, and the American Association of Spray Tanners, we happily accept this award because it comes from you, the people,” Tom Bergeron said. “I am reminded of something I heard Cloris Leachman yell from her trailer last season,” he quipped with a smile. “I can’t quote it exactly because we’re on network television, but the gist of it was ‘this is deeply satisfying… and I hope we can do it again, and again, and again.’”

Olbermann Said to Be Going to Current TV

Neither Mr. Olbermann, his representatives, or executives from Current TV would comment on the move, but they did not deny that the channel, which counts former Vice President Al Gore as one of its founders, will become at least one partner in Mr. Olbermann’s future media plans.

One of the people with knowledge of the plans said Mr. Olbermann would have an equity stake in Current TV. The people insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized by their employers to comment in advance of the official announcement.

On Monday a public relations agency hired by Mr. Olbermann scheduled a Tuesday morning conference call for an announcement about his next job. “He and his new partners will make an exciting announcement regarding the next chapter in his remarkable career,” the agency wrote in an e-mail.
